Ikea Lamp Hack

Every time we are at a trade show or expo we get a million questions & compliments on our hanging lamps that I created years ago. I figured it was time to do a little Ikea Hack for them.

Materials: Orgel Pendant Ikea Lamp, Hambly Overlays, (or 9" x 9.25" sheets of translucent patterned vellums)

Description: These hanging lamps come with cream colored paper lanterns. We wanted to make them more appealing by using a variety of patterned overlays.

Here's what the lamp looks like right out of the box.

After assembling the lamp, we cut a bunch of overlays to 9" x 9.25" For this lamp we used the Brocade overlays in different colors. The overlays are perfect- since they are clear they let a lot of light through.

Mini glue dots or glue lines are a great way to adhere them to the lamp. You can hide the glue under the printed design. We put glue on all 4 corners of the overlays. Just repeat this until all the sides are covered. 

Here's what the final lamp looks like. 

I love how the overlays add so much color!

This is a fun & easy way to make custom shades. (and if you like to change your decor, like I always do- you can easily try new colors & designs) The overlays work the best, but a light colored paper or vellum also works.

a little update

Sorry i've been MIA the last 2 weeks. We went to Tulum for a wedding- which was just beautiful! I've been playing catch up with e-mails and everything since i got back. We will be posting the new DT the beginning of next week. This is the toughest decision so far! So many wonderful submissions....this is not easy at all. Thanks everyone for your patience.

NY Recap

Just wanted to post pics from New York. We had a great time at the show and in NY - such an inspiring city! Here's the group that went to NY -  Rose, Cris & myself (Allison).

 Making paper garland for the demo was lots of fun!

I had a chance to walk around the ICFF downstairs. I thought these decorative lamps were so elegant and different from Lilite.

Plus these cool hanging lamps in the Spain section.

The last night in NY i decided to stay at the Night hotel in times square. Love the black & white patterns everywhere.

I didn't have time to do a lot of shopping, but did by this cool plate from Fishs Eddy. It looks like a sheet of graph paper, and is perfect to serve cheese on.  There is so much unique kitchen stuff at the place, if you are in NY it's worth a visit :)
